Jan Szmatloch
Born in 1950 in Ruda Śląska. Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts of Krakow, Faculty of GraphicArts in Katowice, M.A. in 1974. Currently a professor in the Graphic Arts Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. Recipient of a scholarship from the Ministry of Arts and Culture (Poznań 1978), scholarship “Aldegrever Gesellschaft” ( Münster 1985), scholarship “Culture prize of Lower Saxon, Silesia 1992” ( Hanover 1992).
In the years 1975-2009 he had 120 exhibitions in his home country and over 70 exhibitions in group exhibitions of Polish graphics outside Poland. He also had 36 individual exhibitions.
Participated in international juried exhibitions, including biennials and triennials of graphics, e.g.:in Kraków Biennials/Triennials( 1978, 1980, 1984, 1988), Fredrikstadt (1978 – award), Lubljana (1979), Łódź (1981, 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 1991, 1996, 1999 – medal, 2002, 2005, 2008), Grado ( 1981 – prize), Baden- Baden ( 1981), Banska Bystrica (1981 – award), Grenchen (1982), San Francisco (1983), Toronto ( 1986 – prize, 1987 – award, 1988, 1990, 1991), Biella (1990), Leicester ( 1994, 1997), Chamalieres (1994 – award), London ( 1999), Amadora ( 2000), Maramures (2008), Warszawa (2008), Sarcelles (2009).
